I disagree with Booker T. Washington. I think he was a smart man with tons of great ideas, but I don't believe he made a good compromise.
He made a compromise with the whites saying that if they would let blacks get jobs and economic opportunities, blacks wouldn't demand social equality.
He spoke for all the blacks. But not all blacks agreed with him. Not all blacks wanted partial equality. Some wanted full equality. W.E.B. DuBois was among those who wanted full equality. In a democracy all citizens must be treated fairly. Prejudice is not democratic.
